Engineering Survey of Dalian Changxing Island Xinggang Building and Apartment Building Project

The project site is located on the north side of Chengzitan-Bachagou Line and adjacent to the southern Culture and Art Square of Changxing Island. With the terrain conditions featured in high west/north and low east/south, the ground elevation of construction site is 26.0~33.5m which means the great topographic relief. This hilly limestone area formed by tectonic denudation has a complex foundation and certain aeolian dunes and exposed bedrocks on the surface layer, equipped with the culverts, water pipelines and cables. The class of geotechnical survey is classified as Class A.

The project construction of a large public complex consists of three blocks: Block A is an administration building of 18 floors located in the middle; Block B and Block C are office buildings of 11 floors on both sides. This magnificent complex has a ground-floor basement with the shear wall-frame structure, and its symmetrical layout reflects the natural and different building heights. The construction area is about 80,000 square meters. 

The karst development must be confirmed through geotechnical survey for the project construction in this limestone area, and the methods adopted include drilling exploration, standard penetration test, heavy dynamic penetration test, wave velocity test, short-period microtremor test and indoor geotechnical test. 

The construction involves 72 boreholes, 825m of drilled footage, 101 standard penetration tests, 2.20m of dynamic penetration, 4 holes for wave velocity test, 54 longitudinal wave testing points, 54 transverse wave testing points, 2 short-period microtremor testing points and 56 soil/rock samples.

The project is awarded the Liaoning Provincial Second Prize of Excellent Survey Achievement in 2010.
